On 27th September, the people voted overwhelmingly in favour of a 2-week paternity leave. This decision will lead to a modification to the law which will come into force on 1st January 2021.
In order for your employees to benefit from this new advantage, it will be necessary to apply for a loss of earnings benefits (APG) from the relevant compensation funds and to incorporate the increase in APG contributions from 0.45% to 0.5%, which is in addition to the long list of administrative tasks you already have to carry out.
Paternity leave in brief
As in the case of maternity leave, the paternity allowance corresponds to 80% of the average income from gainful employment before the birth of the child, up to a maximum of CHF 196/day. This leave may be taken en bloc or in the form of individual days within six months of the birth. The employer may not offset it against the employee's holiday entitlement.
